2023-2025 / ShopCierge

The Shopping Guide for Shopify.

ShopCierge was a strong product inside a rough market. More importantly, it taught me the thing that became You.one: people do not need a smarter text box. They need a good guide on their side.

A person shopping online while ShopCierge shows a curated shortlist of gift recommendations.

LLMs could be a guide. Not a support bot. Not a recommendation widget. A guide.

Most people do not really know what they want at the beginning. Good guidance helps them discover it.

Online shopping was built around search, filters, product grids, and persuasion. But people often needed someone helpful and knowledgeable on their side, not something trying to sell them more stuff for the store.

Step by step worked. Preset options often worked better than walls of text. Even when the preset was not perfect, it inspired the next input and the next step.

I built a concierge AI product inside the Shopify ecosystem. It answered questions, guided shoppers, suggested paths, and gave small stores a better way to help people buy.

I worked one-on-one with merchants and got roughly 10 five-star reviews from people who were genuinely happy with the product.

The product vision kept pushing beyond text recommendations. The whole storefront could become AI-guided: a better experience from uncertainty to choice to fulfillment.

The Shopify app market was rough: cheap clones, LLM wrappers, support-answer bots, review games, and merchants who often could not see what AI could really become.

But I learned a lot. People can be guided toward what they actually want. The guidance is what helps them see it.

The lesson was bigger than shopping: people do not need a smarter text box. They need a good guide on their side.

ShopCierge is in maintenance mode now: a past creation, still useful, and a useful scar.

It gave me the product learning that became You.one: guide people one step at a time, with taste, context, and care. Do not make them wrestle a blank box.
